day 20, Feb 1, 2011, at sea

Here are Uruguay vids 16-20.
Susie, we are totally impressed at how busy you are! What a winter you are having! We were reading our books on the balcony yesterday, another beautiful day. And sunset is at 10 pm! Very confusing because ... no winter here! Love hearing from you.
Hi Eliza, hope you are enjoying the vids. Our Flip camcorder is so neat!
Katie, we are thinking of taking the QM2 in Oct to come and see you. Are we ever being spoiled on this trip! I keep thinking of a line from an  old movie, "Innkeeper! Wine for my men and water for our horses!"
We had a great conversation last night after dinner in the Churchill Room with some people from Texas who travel 6 months a year and give art courses on cruise ships.
Ashley and Rachel, we have been reading Alexander McCall Smith. Mom has got me hooked on the books in Edinburough about the Philosopher's Club.
We are now 6 hours ahead of you. Capetown on Friday. Right now, our visit to Egypt is a big question mark??? Another cocktail party with the Captain tomorrow. Oh dear, it's so difficult planning all of our social engagements!!
Dave and Rachel, we are feeling guilty that you have to shovel our sidewalk with all of this snow. If it is too much, John, who lives in the house next door(not in the other double, on the other side) told us once he knows someone who would do it. Anyway, many thanks for all of your effort!
Our new generator has been installed at the cottage. A big relief because we were worried about the power going off for several days. Does anyone know what the weather has been like up in Canada?

  1. Hi Mom and Dad --

Taking the boat over in October would be grand -- you'll beat the jet lag, in style.
The weather in Eganville for the next five days:

    12° 12° 18° 23° 25°
    0° -4° 9° 7° 15°

Snow today and tomorrow, then sunny for two days, snow on the weekend.

I found Eganville, ON info at weather.com

Our porch in CT has a bit of water coming in because a gutter (one that was weak already, maybe) got overloaded with ice. But we aren't shoveling here in NYC!

We were talking about whether you'd stop in Egypt, and even if the ship would go through the Suez Canal. If you don't, I expect it makes for a much longer trip. Have they told you what the options are?

Katie posted a picture of St Bees on her facebook page, which along with the announcement at church makes our info public.

My mom's surgery was successful and the verdict came back that she is clear and doesn't need any chemo or further treatment, which is glorious news. Thanks for praying for her.

    Love, Cliff

  4. We were just talking about Egypt. We are going to a cocktail party tonight with the Captain and will ask him.
Thanks for your comment Cliff. Great news about your Mom.
Thanks for your comment Cap'n Jimbob. A great big Ahoy! to you too.
Anybody noticing any 29th days approaching? Take your pick. Our objective now is to avoid ending up on the 6 o'clock news. We still have a couple of months before we get to the Suez Canal. If things don't settle down, we may find out why there is a Suez Canal.

  6. It is dark but we're crazy that way. Getting ready to exercise after another cup of coffee. By the way, we hope the pictures of what Mom is wearing will be helpful to the girls for our trip to Alaska.
I love the rhyming, it has just the right timing ... was the ship's bell just chiming?

  7. So who is the pirate? Geordie? Egypt certainly is a concern, but be very glad you are missing the absolutely foul weather we are having here!! THe QM2 in Oct would be nice--although aren't the seas a bit rougher then? Of course you could always come with us in July... :)
