day 50, at sea

Katie got Matthew Arnold, Dover  Beach, and even quoted the last verse. Excellent!!!! We are totally impressed and in awe. Also, Katie got Rupert Brook. Impressive!!
Cliff got BOTH references to "the glassy sea". Outstanding, Cliff!!
The longer quote, one of my favorites is from Richard II, Act II, Scene I, John of Gaunt's speech.

I am blogging for geniuses!!!

  1. Hi Mom and Dad!
Sorry I haven't commented in a while... I have been really busy and then had a bad cold, so I hadn't checked the blog for the last ten days or so. But now I have read all of the posts and watched all the videos- so I'm all caught up on your activities! :)
The game park looked cool- Mom, did you actually touch a koala bear?

I'm very impressed with everyone's poetic knowledge! I knew both the glassy sea references too, but alas, I missed the whole window of opportunity there, so you'll just have to take my word for it. :)

Whist sounds like fun- and I am guessing that it is really NOT just luck! Esp if it is related to bridge- no wonder you guys are winning! Good for you. :)

The snow is all gone now and around here we are all in the final mad dash to get the girls' play ready for March 17,18, and 19th. So- my comments will be brief until after that!

Oh, did the girls tell you our baby goats were born? Twin boys.
We have named them Prince Charming and Humperdink.

Now- does anyone know where the name Humperdink comes from??? - more along my line of trivia!

    They are very cute.

Well, that's all for now! Can you believe you only have 7 weeks left on the ship??
    love,
    Susie

  2. Humperdink! Humperdink! Humperdink!

But shouldn't the other goat be named Wesley ;)

    (Both The Princess Bride refs!)

My favorite line from Richard II is: Let us talk of worms, of graves and epitaphs, make dust our paper and with rainy eyes write sorrow on the bosom of the world.

A bit of a downer, but I still like it :)

  3. very good Katie! Well, for obvious reasons we did not go with Wesley... although the girls did debate calling him not just Wesley but 'my sweet Wesley' ha!
We have a theme going for our goats.. all named from movies. :)
The parents are Miss Hannigan and Chewbaka (sp?)

  4. Excellent, Susie. You nailed BOTH glassy sea references! And yes, Mom actually did touch a koala bear! You must be busy! The play is getting close. We''l be thinking of all of you. We hadn't heard about the goats - twins!! By the way, we didn't know who Miss Hannigan was.

  5. That is a good line, Katie, even if it is a downer. The thing I remember most about Richard II is that we went to the play at a neighboring high school and one of the actors had a big rip in his leotards (or hose ... or whatever)! Pretty intellectual,eh?

  6. Oh! Miss Hannigan is from Annie. :)

  7. We didn't know Humperdink either, Susie. The only one we knew was Englebert Humperdinck, the singer from the 60's and 70's. (Englebert got his name from a German Composer, even though he was Welsh).
