Yesterday, Mom and I were sitting on the balcony just looking at Pacific Ocean. As we were talking, we thought of two references to the sea. See if you can tell us their source-no looking on the Internet!
1." The sea is calm tonight". Title and Author please.
2." The glassy sea"-we need two religious references for this one.
Good luck! Mom nailed the first one and expects Geordie and Katie to know it!
Mom thought one of the references to the glassy sea was a hymn and sure enough that was right. We thought the second one was biblical but didn't get the exact reference.
I have got hooked on Alexander McCall Smith, the number one ladies Detective agency, and the Sunday philosophers club. They are wonderful books with a very slight mystery but mostly about philosophy and people interacting with each other in a very pleasant way. I know that Ashley and Rachel and Mom have already read most of these books and I would encourage you to take a look at them.
Today is day 50, March 3, and it looks like another beautiful day. We will be arriving in Guam in a few days and then on to Japan. We have canceled our Guam tour and plan to just go to a beach and walk around for while. We got $196 back from the tour so that will pay for a few taxis and snorkel equipment if we want it! As you can tell from Cunard's prices, they don't give anything away.
Katie, the food has been fantastic. There are five or six choices every night but if you don't like that, there are about 20 more choices on a continuing menu. Unfortunately, you have to be in the Queens grill to get that much choice. For example, you could have lobster Thermidor every night, or Châteaubriand, or filet mignon, or some great shrimp dishes. Also, for dessert you can have a soufflé whenever you want, or, yummy, crème brûlée. (Notice how my Dragon software for dictating even puts in French accents!).

Hi Grandad and nanna Hope you guys Are having a lot of FUN!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kate,
ReplyDeleteYes, we are having a LOT OF FUN!!!
On Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold--and to quote the last verse:
ReplyDeleteAh love, let us be true to one another,
For in a world that seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
so various, so beautiful, so new
Hath neither joy nor light nor peace nor help from pain
And we are here as on a darkling plain
(can't remember this line)
Where ignorant armies clash by night.
Is the glassy sea the crystal sea of the last verse of Love Divine, Loves All Excelling?
ReplyDeleteThe food does sound great! Sadly we'll be slumming it in Mauritania :)
ReplyDeleteI think the glassy sea is a description of heaven/the New Jerusalem in Revalation. And that's picked up in Holy Holy Holy, yes?
ReplyDeleteCliff
Revelation, that is.
